Check the nap before treating a stain
- Compare the colour with the light coming from different directions.
- Gently align the nap with a clean, soft brush, then compare again.
- Check for an oily feel, matted fibres or sharply defined edges.
- See whether the darker-looking area changes as the nap direction changes.
A careful treatment sequence
- Begin by vacuuming away loose dust.
- Gently align the nap, working from the outer area.
- Identify the type of soiling before making a local treatment test.
- Once fully dry, brush the nap again and assess the result.
When treatment can cause lasting damage
Over-wetting, aggressive brushing or an unsuitable cleaner can leave water rings, colour loss, matted nap and permanent colour differences.
