Check first
- Check for colour loss and colour bleeding.
- Assess whether the nap is matted.
- Distinguish grease, tide marks and ordinary loose dust.
- Prepare dedicated brushes and keep their cleanliness under control.
Working sequence
- Remove dust dry.
- Brush lightly to free and align the nap.
- Test the proposed local treatment in an inconspicuous area.
- Allow complete drying before gently grooming the nap in intersecting directions.
Too much moisture, prolonged brushing of one spot and hot-air drying can flatten the nap or leave stiff boundaries. Where the outcome is uncertain, retaining a faint mark may be preferable to causing damage.
