Tackiness, blistering and peeling often indicate finish instability. Continued wiping, conditioning with oils or heating may spread the failure.
What to check
- Does tackiness occur with colour transfer?
- Are blisters near flex points or heat-exposed areas?
- Does the surface lift at a light touch?
- Is there a history of unknown cleaners or restoration?
What to do
- Stop adding products.
- Separate the item from surfaces it could stick to.
- Photograph the condition and leave it undisturbed to stabilise naturally.
- Have a professional assess the construction and repair limits.
Tackiness does not mean the leather needs oil. Adding oily products to a degrading finish can make the problem harder to control.
