Hardware, fabric linings and leather panels need separate tools and appropriate protection. Keep metal-treatment residue and transferred dyes away from adjoining surfaces.

Check first

  • Identify whether the hardware is plated, solid metal or coated.
  • Test the lining fabric for colour transfer.
  • Protect adjacent pale leather and edge paint.
  • Prepare separate cloths, brushes and containers for each area.

Working sequence

  1. Remove dry particles first.
  2. Begin with the lowest-risk area.
  3. Lift residue promptly and maintain ventilation.
  4. Wait until the materials are stable before closing the bag.

Aggressive polishing is not a reliable remedy for hardware scratches. An over-wet lining can transmit moisture to the outer leather. Keep all liquid applications within an area where they can be recovered.
