Terms such as excellent condition or minor signs of use can mean different things to different buyers. A single overall grade obscures differences between corners, handles, hardware, lining, structure and previous repairs. Break the item into observable areas.
Areas to record
Include front and back panels, base and four corners; handles, straps and attachments; edge paint, folds and opening areas; zips and hardware; lining, pockets and odour; overall structure and distortion. Describe the type and extent of each mark and any effect on use.
Match words to photographs
Use the same area name or identifier in text and images. A description of light rubbing at all four corners needs photographs of those corners, not only attractive overall views. Use a consistent background and natural or stable lighting. Avoid filters that alter colour or conceal defects.
Record care and repair history separately
Disclose known cleaning, conditioning, local recolouring, full restoration, edge-paint work, bonding, replacement leather or hardware treatment in a dedicated field. Do not bury this information in a general positive condition statement.
Working sequence
- Take overall and sectional photographs before care.
- Use shared area names and descriptive terms.
- Distinguish ordinary wear, functional effects and structural damage.
- Link each description, photograph and treatment record.
- Have a second person check text against images before listing.
