A tool's firmness, absorbency and cleanliness determine how much friction and product reach the surface.

Check first

  • Brush tips should be even, without hard protruding bristles.
  • Cloths should not shed dye or lint or conceal particles.
  • Sponge pores should support small, even applications.
  • Separate tools by colour and procedure.

Working sequence

  1. Clean and test new tools.
  2. Colour-code them for their materials and procedures.
  3. Use a clean tool face for each section.
  4. Clean thoroughly and dry after use.

Grit and old pigment in a cloth can cause fine scratches or dye transfer. Feeling soft to the touch does not by itself make a tool safe.
