Shipping risks include compression, lost accessories and incomplete information. Tight wrapping alone does not protect a bag. Confirm the service and address first, then photograph, inventory, support, separate and cushion before sealing.

Remove valuable documents, identification and unnecessary accessories. Follow the carrier's declared-value requirements and retain the receipt.

Keep a record before packing

  • Take six-side photographs in daylight, plus close-ups of defects, scuffs, hardware and corners.
  • Photograph relevant inner markings or serial details with privacy in mind.
  • List straps, locks, keys, charms and dust bags.
  • Record a continuous video showing the emptied bag, support, packing, sealing and waybill.
  • Keep the tracking number, insurance information, weight and dispatch time.

Prepare the item

  1. Remove liquids, food, powders and batteries.
  2. Detach suitable straps and wrap them separately in colourless soft material. Prevent hardware from pressing into leather.
  3. Support the base and corners loosely with white paper.
  4. Separate chains, metal fittings and zip pulls from sensitive surfaces.
  5. Use a clean breathable dust bag. Do not seal and ship a damp item.

Pack the outer box

  1. Choose a sound rigid box with room for cushioning.
  2. Cushion the base, place the bag inside and protect all six sides without creating hard pressure points.
  3. Shake the box gently and fill movement gaps without compressing the bag.
  4. Include an accessory list and contact or order details inside.
  5. Tape the seams in an H pattern and attach the label flat.

Use suitable cardboard, clean paper, stable cushioning, separate accessory bags and waterproof outer protection. Bubble wrap is for outer cushioning; avoid prolonged direct contact with sensitive patent leather or sticky plastics. Do not use newspaper, dyed clothes, mothballs, wet towels or an undersized box.

At receipt

Record the box, waybill, seals and any crushing before opening. A continuous unpacking video, accessory check and matching six-side photographs help distinguish shipping damage, existing condition and later work.

Discuss wet or mouldy items, crumbling material, loose decoration, fragile glass, non-removable batteries and exceptionally valuable items beforehand. Check the carrier's restrictions on liquids and chemicals.
